III INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ROOT, TUBER AND BULB CROPS

About
The III International Symposium on Root, Tuber and Bulb Crops: Sustainability and Food Security in the Face of Climate Change will be held under the aegis of the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) at the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), located in Lavras, Minas Gerais, Brazil, from June 22 to 26, 2027. The event will promote the generation and dissemination of scientific, technical, and technological knowledge within the field of olericulture, with an emphasis on root, tuber, and bulb cultivation systems under tropical conditions. It aims to provide an integrated approach to challenges related to production system sustainability and food security in the context of climate change.
The symposium intends to foster high-level discussions on the primary challenges and perspectives of contemporary olericulture. Key areas of focus include conservation of genetic resources, vegetable breeding, precision agriculture, sustainability of production systems, and harvest, post-harvest, and market chains for root, tuber, and bulb crops. These discussions are expected to generate direct impacts on technological innovation, production efficiency, climate change adaptation, and the strengthening of food security, particularly in tropical agricultural systems.
By addressing advances at the frontier of knowledge in these areas, the event will also contribute to the education and professional development of various audiences, including undergraduate and graduate students, as well as professionals from Brazilian and international institutions. In this context, the event is expected to drive the modernization and improvement of production systems, aiming for greater sustainability and the maintenance of food security amidst global climate change.
Given its international character and the broad participation of foreign attendees, the symposium will also facilitate the networking and strengthening of international partnerships. These collaborations aim to develop sustainable solutions for the major challenges facing modern olericulture. Finally, participants will take part in a technical visit to a major vegetable production hub in São Gotardo, Minas Gerais, Brazil. This field trip will allow for direct interaction with growers, as well as expert discussions and the exchange of experiences regarding vegetable cultivation practices and techniques in tropical conditions.
We cordially invite researchers, students, and industry professionals from around the globe to join us for this landmark event. Your participation is vital as we work together to build a more resilient and food-secure future. We look forward to welcoming you to Lavras in June 2027!
